XM Global Limited is an IFSC regulated broker based in Belize. It offers MT4 and MT5 and allows the use of Expert Advisors (EAs). On MT5, XM provides a relatively large number of markets with 1000+ available. At XM Global, XM does not charge commissions but nonetheless can offer tight spreads on EUR/USD down to 0.6 pips. For most of its account types, XM Global offers a low minimum deposit, ranging from $5 - $50, depending on the account type. However it additionally provides a Shares account which offers real Stocks to own and has a minimum deposit of $10,000. Traders in the EEA and Australia will not sign up with XM Global, rather will sign up with XM CySEC regulated or XM ASIC regulated.

What kind of broker is XM Global ?

XM offers flexibility for MT4 and MT5 traders. It has a very low minimum trade size available on its Micro account types. These account types utilise the capacity of MT4 and MT5 to be denominated in cents, which sets 1 lot = 1,000 rather than a standard lot value of 100,000. Thus micro lots on a cent account become 0.0001 standard lots. These accounts have limit on the size of the order, so if the trader wishes to trade larger trade sizes, they may trade on the Standard account type, which has the same trading conditions and minimum deposit as its Micro versions, except that it allows smaller trade sizes. This Micro account (which is an account type sometimes called a cent account) is offered as a standalone account (the Micro account) and as one version of the Ultra Low account.

What is the Ultra Low account ?

The Ultra Low account is an account type which can offer lower spreads on Forex major pairs, for example down to 0.6 on EUR/USD. On the other accounts, EUR/USD spreads are down to 1. The Micro and Standard accounts have a minimum deposit of $5, but the Ultra Low has a minimum deposit of $50 (still relatively low). The Ultra Low account comes in two styles, the Micro Ultra and the Standard Ultra. The Micro Ultra does not have quite as low a minimum trade size as the Micro account, as its minimum trade size is 0.001 standard lots (versus 0.0001 standard lots on the Micro account).

Differences between the Micro and Micro Ultra accounts

  • The Micro account has a lower minimum deposit ($5 vs $50).
  • The Micro account has a low minimum trade size (0.0001 lots vs 0.001 lots).
  • The Micro Ultra account can offer lower minimum spreads on Forex major pairs (0.6 pips vs 1 pip).

Does XM offer a demo account ?

XM does offer a demo account, where the trader can try out either platform. XM Demo.

What is the maximum trade size ?

This depends on whether the account is a Micro or a Standard account types. For Standard account types, the maximum order size is 50 standard lots. For the Micro account types, the maximum order size is 100 micro lots. However the maximum number of open orders allowed is 200. Thus if a trader wishes to trade on larger order sizes than 50 standard lots, they may break the trade into different parts.

MT4 vs MT5 accounts

To trade on MT5, the trader needs a separate account from MT4. The platform is chosen at registration, but once registered, the trader can simply add on different account types and the other platform. To be clear, the account types are offered for MT4 and MT5. The MT4 account has less markets as it does not offer Stocks CFDs or Shares but the MT4 account has the lowest minimum trade size, as the minimum trade size on the Micro account is 0.0001 lots for MT4 and 0.001 lots for MT5.

What markets are offered ?

XM offers Forex, Indices, Energy, Precious Metals, Stocks and Shares, for a total of 1000+ markets to trade. The full compliment is available on MT5. MT4 offers Forex, Indices, Energy and Precious Metals, for a total of 100+.

Why use MT4 or MT5 ?

MT5 is the successor to MT4 and has a number of enhancements, including more time frames, order execution types and graphical objects, as well as supporting more markets to trade. However the trader may be familiar with MT4 or simply prefer this platform. AT XM, the trader can open an MT4 account and then later try MT5 is they wish.

Is automated trading allowed ?

XM allows the trader to use Expert Advisors (EAs). EAs are online trading robots for MT4 and MT5. These robots are programmed to execute trades on behalf on the trader. The trader can use EAs already built or can may build them, in the MQL4 programming language for MT4 or the MQL5 language for MT5. XM supports a wide range of trading styles, including scalping.

What type of trader may be suited to XM Global ?

A wide range of traders could find XM suitable for their trading. Traders who use automated and non-automated trading can use this broker, as MT4 and MT5 support both of these types of trading. Traders who want to trade Stocks CFDs using leverage (increasing leverage increases risk) can do so at XM Global on MT5. Traders can also buy real Shares to own without leverage on the Shares account. Forex traders may trade from 60+ Forex pairs on MT4 and MT5 and use EAs as they wish.
