About No Dealing Desk Brokers

In dealing desk trading, there is usually a mark-up in the spread and a dealing desk between the trader and prices. In no dealing desk, prices are brought more directly to the trader without dealing desk intervention.

There may be a mark-up, or commissions charged, typically. The commission is usually taken for each side of the trade, to open and close.

If a broker does have a mark-up in spreads and does not charge a commission and is no dealing desk, they may be referred to as an STP (Straight Through Processing) broker. Brokers which do not have a mark-up and provide raw ECN spreads with an additional commission charge, may be referred to as ECN (Electronic Communication Network) brokers.

No dealing desk versus dealing desk

  • No dealing desk spreads can be lower than dealing desk spreads
  • No dealing desk spreads can have an additional commission charge
  • No dealing desk order execution may be faster than dealing desk
  • No dealing desk brokers may typically not requote orders
  • No dealing desk may have less or no restrictions on trading styles such as scalping and automated trading
  • Dealing desk trading may be more 'approachable', using custom dealing desk platforms
