Crypto Broker Comparison - What is Cryptocurrency CFD Trading

These brokers offer CFD trading of Cryptocurrency CFDs on online trading platforms used to trade their range of markets. But what is Cryptocurrency CFD trading ?

Is a Cryptocurrency CFD a real cryptocurrency ?

A Cryptocurrency CFD is a CFD, not a cryptocurrency. A CFD is a Contract for Difference, which is a contract between the trader and the CFD provider, allowing them to trade the financial market, without owning the underlying market. In essence it allows the trader to speculate on the movement in value of a cryptocurrency, without owning the cryptocurrency.

Does the trader need a wallet ?

As the trader does not own any cryptocurrency when trading a cryptocurrency CFD, they do not need a wallet, as this is means to store physical cryptocurrency assets.

Can the trader go long and short ?

With a CFD, the trader can both speculate on a move in value up (going long) and speculate on the move in value down (going short).

Does the trader trade on an exchange ?

The trader is not trading on exchanges, where the cryptocurrency asset is being traded. However the value of the cryptocurrency CFD is based on the value of the cryptocurrencies on these exchanges. The trader trades cryptocurrency CFDs on an online trading platform provided by the broker, which can include MT4, thus potentially supporting MT4 Bitcoin trading, Ethereum MT4 trading and Ripple MT4 trading.
