Pepperstone and USGFX Comparison

Both brokers offer no dealing desk intervention ECN trading. USGFX does not offer Forex trading with a commission charge, while Pepperstone does. Pepperstone also provides STP/ECN trading with no Forex commission charged.

ECN conditions

Pepperstone offers ECN trading, along with STP/ECN trading. Pepperstone aggregates prices from multiple liquidity providers for its ECN account. USGFX is an STP/ECN broker, as it uses one liquidity provider (which itself accesses multiple liquidity providers). Both brokers use infrastructure to provide high speed order execution, using Equinix infrastructure. Neither broker restricts trading styles, allowing scalping, EAs and news trading.

  • Pepperstone offers four account types. These are Standard, Razor, Islamic (Swap Free) and Active Traders. Pepperstone provides trading guides, a market review and an economic calendar its website. Pepperstone says that latency is as low as 50ms. The minimum trade size is 0.01 lots.
  • Pepperstone's Standard and Islamic accounts do not charge commissions and hence offer higher spreads as they include a mark up. The Razor account charges commissions and allows scalping.
  • Pepperstone's Active Traders account is for active traders and institutions depositing at least $25,000 and trading at least 250 lots a month. It offers EDGE ECN Execution, a dedicated relationship manager, a segregated customer account, advanced reporting, VPS hosting services and custom solutions.
  • USGFX offers four account types. These are Mini, Standard, VIP and Pro-ECN. The minimum deposit for the Mini account is $100, the minimum deposit for the Standard account is $10,000, and the minimum deposit for both the VIP and Pro-ECN accounts are $50,000. The different account types can offer lower spreads, with the lowest being available on the VIP account. All account types have a minimum trade size of 0.01 lots.
  • USGFX offers Trading Central, the Recognia Trading System (which provides trading ideas), analysis, one on one coaching and an Education Center on its website with webinars, seminars, a trading guide and Blog, along with contests.

  • Spreads at Pepperstone are variable and are from 0.0 for EUR/USD (with an average of 0.2) plus a commission charge, from 0.6 for Gold and 0.05 for US Crude Oil. For the Standard account EUR/USD spreads are from 1 (with an average of 1.2) without a commission charge.
  • USGFX offers variable spreads. On the Mini account, EUR/USD is from 2.8, on the Standard account EUR/USD is from 2.2, on the Pro-ECN account EUR/USD is from 1.5 and on the VIP account EUR/USD is from 1.3.

  • Pepperstone charges a commission of $3.76 or AU$3.5 or €2.61 per lot per side on the Razor account, depending on the account currency. cTrader commissions are 7 units per lot round trip of the first quoted currency in the traded currency.
  • USGFX does not charge commissions for Forex or Precious Metals. It does charge commissions of $5 per lot per side for CFDs.
